Dentists Recommend Not Brushing Too Hard
A lot of people think that if they scrub away at their teeth really hard, with a nice stiff toothbrush then they will avoid developing dental diseases such as gum disease or caries, but this is not the advice recommended by the best dentists. Brushing your teeth too hard could actually damage your teeth.
It’s recommended that you brush your teeth at least twice a day, for two minutes each time, and that you floss once a day, and if you have a thorough dental care routine this should be adequate to clean your teeth, and should help prevent dental diseases from developing, provided you visit your dentist regularly, and have your teeth cleaned professionally.
Which type of toothbrush is best?
Your toothbrush doesn’t necessarily need to have a hard bristles, as sometimes better results can be achieved with a soft bristled brush. This is because it will be more able to get in all the nooks and crannies of your mouth, while the soft bristles are good for gently massaging your gums. It is important to remember to clean your gums as well as your teeth, and you should gently brush your tongue as all these areas harbor bacteria.
If you have a smaller mouth, then choose a toothbrush with a small head so it is easier to reach right to the back of your mouth. Some people even use a child’s toothbrush as they find it easier to use. It really doesn’t matter, so long as this is the right size for you.
Choose quality dental care products
Making sure you use good quality toothpaste will also help protect your teeth, and the best dentists would probably recommend that you use fluoride toothpaste which will help give your teeth ongoing protection. The most effective times to conduct your dental care routine are when you get up in the morning, and last thing at night, just before you go to bed. You should try to avoid eating breakfast for at least half an hour after brushing your teeth in the morning, and you should wait an hour after eating before brushing your teeth.
